Papalazdijai Mound with settlement
The Palazdijai hillfort is located on the eastern shore of Lake Baltajis. Its slopes are steep, 9-12 m high. At the top there is a platform 20-25 m in diameter, surrounded on all sides by a rampart 0,5-2,5 m high. There is a terrace on the western slope of the mound. A bunker was dug near the mound during the war. To the south and north-east of the mound is an ancient settlement. Archaeological investigations here have found pottery shards with a rough surface, clay plaster and animal bones. The Papalazdijai mound and settlement complex dates back to the 1st millennium AD.
