Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve Visitor Center

Visitor Centre introduces the largest and most valuable Lithuanian complex of Žuvintas wetlands and shallow Žuvintas Lake. The exposition is prepared for an independent visitor: on the stands – stories about the Lake Žuvintas and its coastal nature, the information portal contains interesting materials about the biosphere reserve, nature, cultural values and separate parts of the reserve. Interesting things are told in a museum exposition. Movies about the nature of the reserve are also shown here.

Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve is the oldest protected territory in Lithuania founded in 1937. In 2011, Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve was included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme. The biosphere reserve is a Natura 2000 territory enrolled into the list of Designated Wetlands and Shallow Waters of International Importance (Ramsar Convention).
One can learn about natural values of the reserve and their protection during a visit to the Reserve Visitors Centre. Bird watching is offered through telescopes and binoculars from an observation tower on the shore of the Lake of Žuvintas; there is also an educational cognitive track with a small tower for bird observation. For students, a nature classroom was equipped.
