Monument to the partisans of Lazdijai region
November 23, 2018 Celebrations were held in Lazdijai region to commemorate the Lithuanian Armed Forces Day. On this day, the partisans of the Lazdijai region who fought for independent Lithuania were remembered and honored. On this occasion, a monument to freedom fighters was solemnly unveiled in Seiriai. The author of the monument is the sculptor Jonas Jagėla. The granite monument is almost five meters high. It consists of a composition of several connected crosses. The predominant motif of the cross and windows seeks to give meaning to both the tragic fate of the partisans and their cherished belief that Lithuania will be free, the hope of seeing returning loved ones through the windows of their native homes. The monument was consecrated by Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevičius, and its construction was initiated by the Lithuanian Genocide and Resistance Research Center and Lazdijai District Municipality.
